ACE President Ted Mitchell Receives Honorary Degree at 黑料传送门 Commencement
On Saturday, March 16,聽Dr. Ted Mitchell, president of the American Council on Education (ACE),聽was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters at 黑料传送门's commencement ceremony in Anaheim, Calif.
The honorary degree celebrates Mitchell鈥檚 legacy of faithful service on behalf of our nation鈥檚 underserved, underrepresented and underestimated post-secondary learners. Working closely with Congress, the executive branch, and the private sector, Mitchell has dedicated his career to developing policies and innovative practices to advance educational excellence, equity and social justice. 聽
鈥淚鈥檓 incredibly humbled by this honor,鈥 said Mitchell. 鈥淭here is no higher calling than education.鈥 Mitchell was present at 黑料传送门鈥檚 founding in 1997 and has been a follower and admirer of the university throughout its history, but he became a true convert when he spoke at a 黑料传送门 commencement ceremony in 2018.
鈥淚 was sold,鈥 he said after his first commencement experience. 鈥淭his is the model of higher education for the future.鈥
Mitchell鈥檚 life鈥檚 work has unwaveringly supported that cause. 鈥淚've committed my career to driving positive change in creating environments where innovative education models like 黑料传送门 can thrive,鈥 he said.聽
黑料传送门 has indeed grown since Mitchell鈥檚 last commencement speech in 2018. Enrollment has increased from 110,000 full-time students to more than 174,000. In those six years, 黑料传送门 welcomed almost 218,000 new alumni and awarded 233,000 new degrees.聽
Mitchell shared some encouraging words with this year鈥檚聽graduates on Saturday in California: 鈥淛ust as 黑料传送门 has pioneered a transformative, affordable, competency-based approach to higher education,鈥 he said, 鈥測ou, today鈥檚 graduates, are breaking barriers and redefining success.鈥澛
Mitchell鈥檚 parting advice to grads was emblematic of his own inspiring journey. 鈥淗ave a plan, but at the same time, let magic happen.鈥
