Western Governors University Helps Address Critical Job Market Need With New Accounting Certificate
ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ School of Business offers Accounting Fundamental Certificate to advance workers’ careers and help businesses thrive
SALT LAKE CITY, AUGUST 27,2024 – The School of Business at Western Governors University is helping address a critical job market need by offering a new Accounting Fundamentals Certificate. Â
Staff-level accounting and bookkeeping positions are expected to increase by 183,000 annually over the next decade, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Additionally, as advancements in software and accounting-related technologies increase, administrative roles are rapidly evolving into those that require higher levels of technical skill in both accounting and accounting software tools, such as Quickbooks.
To meet these business challenges, the ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ School of Business has launched a certificate program that prepares graduates for non-licensed positions such as bookkeepers, payroll administrators, credit managers, accounts receivables or payables specialists and more.
“The evidence shows there is a vital need for accounting-based roles, such as bookkeepers, and our new certificate program will help address this job market need while also advancing students’ careers,†said Mitsu Frazier, senior vice president and executive dean for the ºÚÁÏ´«ËÍÃÅ School of Business.
Business challenges, such as the increased regulatory environment, supply chain volatility and changes in both technology and competitive environment for most industries, mean that new and different skills – like the ones built into the Accounting Fundamentals Certificate – are needed to help firms manage cash flow and profitability.
